The Sound of Music

This video was made in the Antwerp, Belgium Central (Train) Station on March 23, 2009, with no warning to the passengers passing through the station. At 8:00 am a recording of Julie Andrews singing 'Do, Re, Mi' begins to play on the public address system.

As the bemused passengers watch in amazement, some 200 dancers begin to appear from the crowd and station entrances.

They created this amazing stunt with just two rehearsals!

Enjoy!

winter day

It was so beautiful out today. We headed out late in the afternoon.

The fresh snow was perfect for making little snow creatures.

Some bright red berries on our Holly bush.

From Head to Toe

Hello to a new hat that I posted a little while ago. From my Slumber Hat collection (a la Wee Willy Winky).

And as promised, a little more about my Baby-Grow Organic Legwarmers / Kidwarmers. Here you can see a pair warming the arms of my little fella.

And the little miss, too of course (and Mama Bear, too you might note).

These fit baby's legs from infancy to toddlerhood (they fit well for 3 and 4 year olds too, just not past the knee), and will fit your kiddo's arms from toddlerhood right up to their pre-teens. These even seem to fit Mama (below the elbow as they get kind of snug at that point).

They have been designed to coordinate with my Baby-Grow Organic Hats for some mix and match eco-fashion for the little hipsters - ha! Some of these are selling out, but I will soon be adding a few new colours.

And finally, adieu to this Black Night and Grey Stripe Baby-Grow Organic Hat, it had a great run but it appears that the fabric is no longer for sale. I mailed out the last one today.

Here is the first peak at my Baby Grow Organic Leggings / Kidwarmers. More details to come soon but I couldn't resist sharing this adorable photo of Baby Amaya with her new leggings - she wears them so well! Thanks, Tracy for the great shot!

New up!

Lots of new things in the works! Some recent postings . . .

The Organic Mod Soft Ball to go with the Organic Mod Soft Blocks . . .

And the last of my Organic Onesie and Hat sets . . . kind of modish /retro all at once.

And more to come . . . tomorrow I mail off samples of a new organic accessory to 4 little hipsters in the "under 2" set to see if I get their stamp of approval. Thank you Olivia, Paulina, Amaya and Linley! I can't wait to hear how they work out - I'm busting!

shop update

A few new things I've been working on . . .

these blocks were lots of fun. Here I had the chance to incorporate some fabrics from the Mod Green Pod collection into my work.

Here they are combined with a Harmony Art print - Let it Grow. A striking combination, n'est-ce pas?

I ordered a few fabric samples from MGP as I was hoping to find some fabric to make some curtains for our new house.

I also ended up completing a couple of nice applique tshirts with them. A new take on a couple of old favourites.

Patchwork blocks

My first set of organic cotton soft blocks -

I've got the hang of the construction now, but the fun part was mixing and matching such a wide range of fabrics and prints.
*
I made this set using a mixed variety of fabrics in mainly blues and greens, then tied them all together with the chili red flannel found on each block.

With the exception of the blue gingham, the rest of the fabrics are from the fab Harmony Art Collection.

All stuffed with lovely Newfoundland Heritage sheep wool. My heart sings!

*******************
My son who just turned 6 claimed these for his birthday. Turns out they're not just for baby!

Wonderful wool

I can't tell you how excited I am about this beautiful Newfoundland Heritage Sheep Wool I recently purchased. I bought it from a lady named Kay who lives on the great northern peninsula of Newfoundland. You can check out her new Etsy shop here.

This wool presents so many wonderful creative ways to incorporate a local and natural product into my work. Organic cotton and local wool - oh so inspiring!

Apparently wonderful for spinning and felting, I've found that this wool is also wonderful for stuffing soft toys - simply perfect for little ones.

Later this summer after some more experimenting (and getting settled in our new home) I should hopefully have some new work to share with you! Oh the fun!

Images of Home

Of our new home, that is. In no particular order, some of around our house, and some I took this afternoon while out strolling with M, who is now napping in her stroller. I am going to miss strolling with little ones next year as they will both have outgrown that stage. Savouring life right now!

new day

Some lilac from my parent's house, and a wedding gift from my friend Laura (nine years ago this summer).

Fresh from the garden, brightening our day. I would love to paint this.

Fresh from my mother's garden. Breathing in summer.

new organic tees

A few new items in my shop this week . . .

The Sarracenia purpureaia, commonly known the pitcher plant in our province. The plant has a delicate beauty which is in contrast to its carnivorous nature!

A playful paisley kitten with a soft red organic cotton flannel ball!

And a little underwater number, filled with pattern and colour and light!
You may recognize many of the Harmony Art fabrics used in these appliques. Lots of fun!

making jam

Don't they look so red and juicy?!! All local berries of course courtesy of our freezer - don't you just love a little early taste of summer!

She's-a-boilin'!

Mmmm . . . delish! Stamp of approval from little M.

a worthwhile cause

Already in Canada there are two provinces which have succeeded in banning dangerous lawn and garden pesticides. Now you can help the David Suzuki Foundation in their campaign to ban them right across Canada! It seems only common sense to put the well-being and health of our children and families ahead of the silliness of a perfect little postage stamp front lawn, don't you think!? Check out the following video to find out how you can help. Time is running out, so let's not delay! We can do it!

You can also click here to send a message to your Premier and Provincial Minister of Environment and Conservation to let them know that you would like to see strong protections against the health risks of lawn and garden pesticides.

road trip

We were to take a road trip out east yesterday but were delayed by the weather. Today it is sunny and beautiful and we're all ready to go! Off to visit some family and friends, to see The Rooms and a couple of other art galleries, hit the sewing store to get a few supplies, and also to the Craft Council's shop to drop off a couple of tees and hats!

Also, a couple of gifts for some little people we know . . .

It will be a bit of a whirlwind visit, but lots of fun, too I am thinking! Off we go!

All through the night

This is a book given to my son for Christmas by my mother. It is a beautifully illustrated book of mostly folk / traditional songs, sung by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary.

It seems my daughter is more captivated by it than my son, I think the music is a little too melancholy for him, he who already is full of so many thoughts when the lights go out. She on the other hand, is a bit of a firecracker, so it seems to really counter her energy. This is the music that lulls her to sleep every night, with me close by usually dozing off as well.

As we listened to it in the dark last night and I looked out at the night sky, I could not help but think about the 16 souls still lost out on the Atlantic Ocean as a result of a helicopter crash on its way to an oil platform off the eastern coast of our island. It is still winter here, and the sea can be very harsh. Newfoundland and Labrador has a population of about half a million people, spread out over a very large area, but everyone is touched by this incident. So sad.

This was one of the songs that played as we lay there.

All through the night (A Welsh Hymn)

Sleep, my child and peace attend thee,
All through the night
Guardian angels, God will send thee,
All through the night

Soft, the drowsy hours are creeping
Hill and vale, in slumber sleeping,
I, my loving vigil keeping
All through the night.

While the moon, her watch is keeping
All through the night
While the weary world is sleeping
All through the night

O'er thy spirit gently stealing
Visions of delight revealing
Breathes a pure and holy feeling
All through the night.

Love to thee, my thoughts are turning
All through the night
All for thee, my heart is yearning,
All through the night.

Though sad fate our lives may sever
Parting will not last forever,
There's a hope that leaves me never,
All through the night.
