a new organic dress

I will be listing a new organic cotton dress in the shop tomorrow which will be made to order. It will be available in sizes 6 mos up to size 4T. If you would like one by Christmas, I suggest you order early as I will likely only have time to make one before the Christmas mail rush.

Canada Post's suggested mail dates for Holiday packages are December 11th for Canadian customers and December 8th for U.S. customers. That means orders for this dress need to be place a full week ahead of these dates to allow time for it to be made.

I really love how this dress turned out and as you can probably tell by the photos, my daughter is quite delighted as well!

A few new items added to my shop!

tiny floral and lace

A new organic cotton blouse I just added to my shop. One only for now, although I may soon get a little more of this fabric. The fabric is from Westfalenstoffe of Germany. It is quite different from most of the modern and bold type of designs that seem to be popular with organic cotton designers right now. I like those, too, but this is so sweet and soft.

boho chic

a new dress for the shop, size 4T. Sewn from one of Harmony Art's organic cotton sateen fabrics called Eyes of the World. It seemed to be fitting with this peasant style dress. I've attached a handsewn fabric yoyo to add a little festive flare.

I had only enough fabric for the one dress and will be posting it as soon as I get a chance.

A dress I made recently for my daughter. Sewn from an organic cotton from the Harmony Art collection, named Graceland, which I just love.

Little Lamb

Well, here is our sweet new Organic friend - Little Lamb.
Sewn with Organic cotton sherpa, flannel, french terry fleece and a little floral sateen. She has been stuffed with local Newfoundland Heritage sheep wool and her face has been embroidered with vintage embroidery wool.

She will be very limited as I am making her from my organic cotton fabric remnants. My three year-old daughter quickly claimed this one and my 6 year old son has put in a request for something a little more manly!

She is oh-so-soft and squishable! I haven't any made up for my shop quite yet, but soon!

New for summer: sunhats!

A design I came up with last Spring, and reworked several times over until I got just the right cut. Simple, yes, but all the better to show off the beautiful fabrics, and frame your little beauty's sweet face!

a little Harmony

Thanks so much, to Harmony Susalla of Harmony Art for a mention on her blog a couple of day ago. Harmony recently purchased two of my organic cotton baby hats (Alphabet Soup and Surrender) made from her beautiful line of organic cotton prints for the new babe in her life, Harmony Grace. From Head to Toe

Hello to a new hat that I posted a little while ago. From my Slumber Hat collection (a la Wee Willy Winky).



And as promised, a little more about my Baby-Grow Organic Legwarmers / Kidwarmers. Here you can see a pair warming the arms of my little fella.



And the little miss, too of course (and Mama Bear, too you might note).


These fit baby's legs from infancy to toddlerhood (they fit well for 3 and 4 year olds too, just not past the knee), and will fit your kiddo's arms from toddlerhood right up to their pre-teens. These even seem to fit Mama (below the elbow as they get kind of snug at that point).

They have been designed to coordinate with my Baby-Grow Organic Hats for some mix and match eco-fashion for the little hipsters - ha! Some of these are selling out, but I will soon be adding a few new colours.



And finally, adieu to this Black Night and Grey Stripe Baby-Grow Organic Hat, it had a great run but it appears that the fabric is no longer for sale. I mailed out the last one today.

shop update

A few new things I've been working on . . .

these blocks were lots of fun. Here I had the chance to incorporate some fabrics from the Mod Green Pod collection into my work.

Here they are combined with a Harmony Art print - Let it Grow. A striking combination, n'est-ce pas?

I ordered a few fabric samples from MGP as I was hoping to find some fabric to make some curtains for our new house.

I also ended up completing a couple of nice applique tshirts with them. A new take on a couple of old favourites.

Patchwork blocks

My first set of organic cotton soft blocks -

I've got the hang of the construction now, but the fun part was mixing and matching such a wide range of fabrics and prints.

I made this set using a mixed variety of fabrics in mainly blues and greens, then tied them all together with the chili red flannel found on each block.

With the exception of the blue gingham, the rest of the fabrics are from the fab Harmony Art Collection.

All stuffed with lovely Newfoundland Heritage sheep wool. My heart sings!

My son who just turned 6 claimed these for his birthday. Turns out they're not just for baby!

new organic tees

A few new items in my shop this week . . .

The Sarracenia purpureaia, commonly known the pitcher plant in our province. The plant has a delicate beauty which is in contrast to its carnivorous nature!

A playful paisley kitten with a soft red organic cotton flannel ball!

And a little underwater number, filled with pattern and colour and light!

You may recognize many of the Harmony Art fabrics used in these appliques. Lots of fun!

Finished Dress

Here is a look at the final product - a fairly simple but oh-so-sweet sundress for little M. Still a little too wintry in these parts for traipsing around in a sundress, though. When the mountains of snow finally melt she could wear this in the spring with a long-sleeve shirt underneath.

And yes, she does thankfully approve of this little number. "My bright flowery dress!" she proclaimed when she saw it hanging in her closet this morning. I think Mama got it right this time!

Dressing Miss M.

A typical morning with Miss M.:

"Time to get dressed, M."

"Okay, how 'bout my teacup dress!" thinking getting "dressed" means of course putting on a dress.

"Oh, no M, that is actually a summer dress and is too small. How about these pants?"

"No pants, dress!" she says emphatically as she throws the pants down on the floor.

"Okay, well this dress is a little warmer, how about this one?"

"No, I want my teacup dress!"

And on it goes until we reach a compromise. This is what we settled on yesterday. Getting her to wear pants with her teacup dress was quite a feat in itself - thankfully the colourful stripes seemed to allow an exception to the "no pants" rule.



It turns out warm and practical are not high on M's list when it comes to picking out something to wear. Bold, colourful and fun seem to be much more the order of the day (and if pink or girly in any way, is sure to be a hit).

Needless to say, this number I made her a couple of months ago does not get into circulation very much, despite my best efforts.



Oh well, maybe I’ll make one for myself next winter - lol!

So with all of this in mind, and getting an early start on her Spring / Summer clothing, I turned to one of my favourite Harmony Art organic prints and came up with a really sweet flowery sundress for her.

I’ve got a couple of other dresses in mind for her, too which I will show you when they are done.

For now, here is a little sneak peak . . .

hummingbird

Another children's organic tshirt for my shop this weekend. I feel I have a little bit of a rhythm going now, which is nice. I know it's still a little early for shortsleeve tshirts, but by Spring the shop should be good and stocked!



This one was done with Harmony Art's Whispering Grass in black and white for the hummingbird, and magenta and apricot knits for the flower - which my son told me was actually a heart.

That's okay, I'm thinking flower, he sees a heart, it's all good. Some things don't need to be overstated.
