a recipe

I have been feeling very "nesty" lately, is that a word? I have had some major life events unfold over the past year or so and whenever faced with big life changes I want nothing more than to stay rooted to my home and look after my little family. That means I've been doing a lot of cooking and baking which I would say has been therapeutic for me. In any case, I thought I'd share one of my recipes that I  came up with this morning. I'm not sure it even qualifies as a recipe, it is kind of something thrown together. It is very simple and adaptable to different ingredients / tastes. In any case, I hope you enjoy it!

Chocolate-Covered Granola Clusters

Ingredients
1 cup of dry mix made up of equal parts of the following: sunflower seeds, hemp hearts, toasted oats, gluten-free cereal o's, raisins, and dried cranberries.
1/2 cup of Camino organic / fair trade chocolate chips (1/2 dark, 1/2 semi-sweet)

Directions
1. Toss dry ingredients together in a bowl.
2. In a double boiler (or in a heavy bowl nestled on top of a pot of simmering water), melt chocolate chips. Mix in cinnamon, vanilla extract and sea salt.
3. Once melted, stir in the dry ingredients, remove from heat and spread out onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Pop in the freezer for about 20 minutes, then scrape cooled mixture off of parchment and crumble into a bowl.
4. Store at room temperature in a sealed container to retain freshness, if they last that long!

Makes close to 2 cups of mix.

working on . . .

organic black dot jersey dress
organic pink stripe interlock night dress
a few projects I've been working on. I used the polka dot jersey to make a dress for my daughter. The pink stripe interlock (which I got from here) I used to make a night dress for myself.

The last photo is a shot looking out at our back yard, lots of snow still to go, but not just yet as we have a little ski holiday planned.

a few good things from today. My daughter has had the flu for over a week, as in flat out on the couch can only watch t.v. and eating very little. I've been warding it off as best I can, not easy when up multiple times throughout the night, all part of being a Mom I suppose. Luckily we still have a few good things left in our fridge to get us through.

oh, and those fabrics. I swear when I get a fabric order in the mail it feels like Christmas, especially when two gorgeous fabrics like this show up! The left is a plum french terry and the right is a grey jersey patterned with black polka-dots, both from Organic Cotton Plus. The left is intended for a pair of track pants for my daughter and the right will be a tshirt, or a t-shirt dress for her, I haven't quite decided. But I do love the two of them together!

still full-out winter in these parts. Will be nice to get a ski in over the upcoming Easter break, but after that we will welcome Spring with open arms!

Anna Atkins

These cyanotypes by Anna Atkins have such an ethereal beauty. They aren't exactly photographs, as there was no camera involved but rather a kind of impression of light and shadow on paper. Anna's was the first published book of such works. These are photograms of various British algae which she collected and dried and then catalogued in her book. The process is said to combine her love of art and science. You can find out more here if you like.

I have been toying around with the idea of working with dying some of the garments I am working on with indigo. Maybe I am just dreaming but the thought occured to try something similar with the indigo and some hand drawn resist technique on fabric. So many ideas, so little time. For now I will just enjoy these . . .
